:star::rose: RIP L57 FAITH :rose::star:

A personal project, a tribute to Faith, or L-57, a Southern Resident Orca who did not return with the others this season.

It's bad news; for a loss of a whale is devastating. Especially if it's one of your favourites... And plus, with only around 87 whales, the SRC population is endangered, and Faith was a fullgrown male. He could have helped raise the popluation.

You can adopt any of the southern residents through the Whale Museum in Friday Harbour,Washington and thier amazing program. You recieve the whale's personal story, a photo, a poster, an adoption certificate, bumper sticker, factsheets about the whales and thier habitat, a stewardship patch, and a geneaology chart of the SRC Orcas. I've adopted Cappuccino K21 and will soon adopt Faith L57 (as a memorial), and you can too! Click here for the list of the adoptable whales!!

ABOUT THE DRAWING

What's the green stuff? It's kelp, a plant found in the waters of the Salish Sea. Faith (L57) was often seen in this activity, or "kelping" (the act of draping kelp over the dorsal fin, pectoral fin, flukes, or body in Orcas). So that's how I decided to include that. =)

Now, this took a LONG time. I really tried to make it look nice, but...I don't really like how it turned out. I hope you all do, though! My favourite part is the water below the surface and the water coming off his dorsal fin. =)

Time: Roughly 3- 3 1/2hours over two days
Program: Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 (and a Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet)
References: Photos of Faith for accuracy on the saddle patch and tail nicks, but none for the drawing itself. Also got colors for the water and background from my own photos of the San Juan Islands.
Brushes: Light ray brushes by ~redheadstock , Bubbles by ~titoff77 . Thank you!

:star:-All print sales will go towards the Whale Musuem's wonderful efforts to conserve the orcas of the Salish Sea. Thank you! -:star:
